IC Information;
Character Name; Dexter Morgan.
Canon; Dexter Wiki Link
Canon Point; End of season six, from when he kills Travis Marshall.
Age; 40. Dexter's birthday is February 1st, 1971. The last season was in 2011.

House; Loki. Why Loki? Good question. Going through this app, Dexter was almost slap bang in the middle between Loki and Hel. He fits into both almost perfectly. I've chosen Loki over Hel mainly for the reason that Dexter is living the lie more often than he is plotting people's deaths. The facade is something he has to keep up 24/7, and due to that he'll be heading to Loki.
Power; Telepathy, Level One.

Personality;

"My name is Dexter. Dexter Morgan. I don't know what made me the way I am, but whatever it was left a...hollow place inside. People fake a lot of human interactions but I feel like I've faked them all and I fake them very well. And that's my burden, I guess."

At first appearence Dexter Morgan comes across as a normal guy. He may seem a little quiet, not boisterous and sometimes just a tad awkward, but overall he's just some guy at the back. Nothing could be further than the truth at all. Dexter Morgan is not only one of the best blood spatter analysists working at the Miami Metro Homicide Department, but he's also one of the most successfull serial killers. In fact, Dexter has killed one hundred and seventeen people and still not been caught.

Dexter's childhood definitely has moulded him into the man he's become. At a young age he witnessed the brutal slaughter of his mother via chainsaw, and wound up sitting in her blood for two days before being found. The man who found him, Harry Morgan, later adopted Dexter and took him in to raise as his own. Even as a teenager Dexter was awkward and quiet, feeling he was different to everyone else. It seemed like he experienced his emotions differently. It wasn't until his father found the bones of the neighbour's dog, and other animals buried in the back yard that things would start working to create the most successfull serial killer in America. Dexter was showing sociopathic symptoms. He'd killed the dog because it barked all night, keeping his ill mother up for the duration. Each animal kill had a reason, and Harry Morgan realized it needed to be channelled into something more useful lest Dexter wind up on the electric chair like any other killer.

Dexter learned, from his father early on, a code. A way of doing things. If he followed that code, nothing could go wrong. He wouldn't end up facing the death penalty. It's something that Dexter still uses even now even if it does frustrate the man from time to time.

1st Rule of the Code : Never get caught.
2nd Rule of the Code : Never kill an Innocent.

These two rules are basically what Dexter lives by. If at any time during a "kill" there's a chance he can be caught, Dexter will abandon it to avoid being caught. If he's caught, he can't do what he does best. The second is also a major factor. Dexter never kills anyone whose guilt is even in doubt. If there is even a hint of them being innocent, or he cannot back up the suspicions, then there will be no kill. This tends to lead Dexter down a merry path or research, even to the point of staking out said suspect to nab a DNA sample to cross reference them in the database at work. If there is only 99% chance the person is guilty, nothing will be done. Again this can frustrate Dexter when he's convinced that someone is guilty, but the code of Harry is there for a reason. It's what he was brought up on and he won't go against it. Dexter also makes sure to take a sample of blood from each of his victims, placing it on a slide and putting it in a box behind the air conditioning unit in his apartment. From time to time he will take them out and remember each kill, as if it was putting a method to his madness. Ninety-eight percent of his victims have slides in that box, the remaining few having had circumstances that prevented it at the time.

"There were so many lessons in the vaunted Code of Harry. Twisted commandments handed down from the only God I've ever worshiped. 1 through 10: Don't get caught. That I got covered. But, killing someone without knowing if he's guilty, I'd love some help on this one, but my God is dead now.

Harry mainly taught Dexter how to hide himself from the world. Even with a few other rules such as:

-Never make a scene.
-Fake emotion and normality to fit in.
-When taking a psychology personality test, always answer the question with the opposite of what you feel.

A lot of people have religions, Dexter has the Code of Harry. These latter rules are also important, but ones that can and have been bent when the occasion requires it. It's the perfect cover for a serial killer, so successfull that Dexter works in the Homicide Department and has never been caught, even when they found the dismembered corpses of his victims at the bottom of the harbour bay. However, covering up so much and putting on a facade does have it's issues.

Dexter states he carries with him a "Dark Passenger". It is basically the name for his impulse to kill. Dexter treats it almost as a seperate being, talking about it as if it were someone else. He recognises that he does need to sate it, otherwise he can suffer side effects, even almost withdrawal symptoms. In his way of coping, Dexter has made it so he often sees an embodiment of said dark passenger. Most of the time it represents his father Harry Morgan, always showing up to help Dexter through whatever it is. They will even have conversations. It's enough to state that the Harry Dark Passenger is the default one. It always reminds Dexter to follow the Codes, will warn Dexter when things are going pear shaped or even tell Dexter how to do things when things are not going to plan. It almost seems to be a friendly thing, as if Dexter is merely just remembering his father.

Psychologists would have a field day.

It's been shown, throughout season six, that the Dark Passenger can actually become more bitter and twisted depending on the circumstances surrounding Dexter. In season six the form is not the default one of Harry Morgan, but of his brother Brian Moser. Brian was also a serial killer, one that Dexter put down himself. This Dark Passenger is sarcastic, always urging Dexter to forget the dammed code and to just go in on a kill. Whenever Dexter does anything impulsive, such as killing a man in pure rage on a beach, it is Brian that shows his face to talk to Dexter. Between Harry and Brian, it's almost symbolizing an inner struggle that Dexter is having in his attempt to be at least more "human".

Perhaps one of the only few times Dexter shows his true personality is when he's caught his victim, tying them down to a table. During these times Dexter becomes pretty energetic, thrilled with how it is going. He's bringing justice to someone who was previously un-caught, doing what the police couldn't do. In his mind he's doing the world a favour, and he enjoys tormenting the prey also. Taunting them and scoffing at whatever beliefs or words they throw his way. He's able to do this because Dexter is always 100% sure of their guilt. His dark passenger, Brian-style, pointing out to Dexter he liked to do this to watch the light go out in a person's eyes. Whilst Dexter refuted that, he always makes sure to watch said light go out, as if subconsciously enjoying it.

"People think it's fun to prentend you're a monster. Me, I spend my life pretending I'm not."

Dexter, in the series, started out believing he was just incapable of being human. He couldn't connect with people as friends, couldn't truly love anyone, and did not feel remorse at killing people. And mostly it's stayed that way, though Dexter has moved on a little from that. He acknowledges right from the start that one person he does have feelings for (in a non-sexual way) is his sister Debra Morgan. Dexter does watch out for Debra, noting she is the one person he cannot hurt and making sure in turn to deal with anyone who hurts her. There may be times when he's tempted, in one episode he walks away from Deb thinking "I must not kill my sister", but it's mainly just sibling frustration as he knows Debra can do better than she actually does. It's also more the important for him to keep his facade up, knowing full well that his sister would be devastated should she ever find out. He tries to act like a normal person, sometimes going too far and saying something that just results in an awkward silence. However people that he works with put him down as just that weirdo who works in blood spatter analysis. Dexter is good at what he does at work, able to tell just by a few drops of blood how someone died, and in what direction the killing blow came from.

Dexter also discovered he could be somewhat human when he had a relationship with Rita. At first he just hung out with the woman as he knew neither of them would try it with the other. Eventually it did, Dexter finding that he could form relationships if he tried. However, Dexter knew that getting close to someone was breaking the rule of "Fake emotion", and eventually it all backfired when Rita was killed by the Trinity Killer once the killer had found out she was with Dexter. This was an eye opener for the man, and since he's not really gotten deeply involved in anything other than raising his small son Harrison. Harrison was another eye opener for Dexter, however he's come to terms that he does have a son, and as such Dexter is trying to pretend to be more human for his son's sake- he does not want to pass his Dark Passenger on to his son and does everything he can to keep it that way. Dexter dotes on Harrison, almost seeing the young boy as a chance to give to him what Dexter could not have himself. A happy, normal life.

The mask of being human is a strong one, however there are times when Dexter finds himself confronted with things he just simply cannot understand, and in turn ends up mulling them over deeply. In season six this is shown through the ideaology of religion. Dexter says from the start he does not believe in God, he has no religion. Coming across people who do have faith start making Dexter question this. He wonders if there is some higher being, even to the point where when Harrison is admitted to hospital with appendicitus, he prays to God to help his son out just this once.

"If I believed in God; if I believed in Sin, this is the place where I would be sucked straight to Hell. If I believed in Hell..."

The faith questioning is short lived though. Eventually Dexter realizes he is the one in control of himself, that if anything the Code is his religion. Dexter does show that he is ot against it though, making sure to enroll his son in a Catholic pre-school. He wants his child to have the choice when he's older, feeling that even though religion is a pain, it's not something he himself can experience.
